“Finding Hope And Humanity At The Border” Cognoscenti Commentary

Last March I visited McAllen, Texas and volunteered briefly at the Humanitarian Respite Center. Since then, I’ve been processing so much of what I witnessed. I still am. Here is a piece about Freddie, a 9-year-old boy I met at a bus station. With so much to say about (scream about) the immigrant crisis at the U.S./Mexico border, I admit, sometimes I feel paralyzed and overwhelmed. So I go back to the writing lesson–go a mile deep, not wide. Here is my attempt to do that by sharing just a few individual stories.
